Mustafain Meghani, MD (founder of Upstate Physician Services) began working delivering pizzas and doing medical billing office work while earning his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University in Alabama. After graduating from Auburn University, he was given the opportunity to expand his knowledge and skills in Medical Billing and Finance Administration. This lead to the successful development of multiple medical offices around Alabama.
Dr. Meghani decided to return to medical school because of a strong desire to be directly part of patient care and improve health outcomes. He attended the Medical University of the Americas (MUA). In 2007, he was awarded MUA's Service and Leadership Award for outstanding leadership and service to fellow medical students. After graduating from medical school, he started his Internal Medicine residency and later served as chief resident. Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) presented him with the Distinguished Achievement in Medical Research and Scholarly Activity during this time. He was also recognized as SIUH Person of the Week in August of 2011 for exemplary behavior in the face of uncertainty during Hurricane Sandy. Directly after his residency, he continued to practice at Staten Island University Hospital.
Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Meghani enjoys cooking, playing racquetball, and volunteering. He often spends his free time while in hospital rotation walking patients in the halls to rehabilitate and prevent debilitating complications to their medical conditions.
